Wildlife Training Workshops with The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust

The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Wash Study Centre

The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust is working to continue Britain’s rich tradition of amateur naturalists by providing a full programme of Wildlife Training Workshops.

The Wildlife Training Workshops aim to help people learn more about wildlife and develop their identification skills so that they can play a positive part in the Trusts work on nature reserves and in the wider countryside.

Kim Hudson, Head of the Wash Study Centre at Gibraltar Point, said: “We have a wide range of courses covering some of the major habitat types including woodland and hedgerows. These will give you an insight into the habitat, identification of the typical flora & fauna, and survey techniques. We also have courses covering particular groups of animals including birds and the more difficult terrestrial and freshwater invertebrates. We aim to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where people can learn more about different aspects of local wildlife, enabling people to enjoy and understand the countryside better.”

The Wildlife Training Courses are held at the Trust’s Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve and Whisby Nature Park, and at the Forestry Commission’s Chambers Farm Wood. Each reserve has an Education Centre, parking and is an inspiring location in which to learn. The level of learning is focused at beginners and those with some experience but wishing to refresh their knowledge and skills.

Residential courses are based at Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve and include accommodation in single, twin and larger within the Wash Study Centre at the heart of the nature reserve and participants can enjoy the wholesome, homemade cooking.

The Trust also offers courses in the arts with opportunities to develop creative skills using the natural world for inspiration. The programme includes photography and watercolour painting.

An information sheet is available for each course detailing what will be covered on the course. Places on the wildlife training workshop, residential and arts courses must be booked in advance.
